Latest Facebook Update Impacts Brands

In January, Facebook will begin lowering the rank of posts from pages that sound too promotional. This follows the social network’s timeline changes announcement from last week. 

Reusing advertising content or asking users to purchase a product, download an app or enter promotions will lower the rank of your page’s content. Facebook is making this adjustment based on survey data about what users want to see in their timelines.

While Facebook may be better serving its users, it is also making it more difficult for brands to let fans know about sales, contests and more without paid support. 

As 2015 planning looms, it may be time to sit down, discuss your ad budget and revaluate content strategy to align with the upcoming changes to Facebook.
