THE BALCOM AGENCY RECEIVES 2005
MEDICAL MARKETING & MEDIA AWARDS HONORS

 

FORT WORTH, Texas – December 5, 2005 – The Balcom Agency won second place in the Best Product Launch Advertisement in Business Press category of the 2005 Medical Marketing & Media (MM&M) Awards.

For this year’s competition, MM&M received more than 500 entries in 23 categories from such national advertising agencies as BBDO, Corbett Accel Healthcare Group, Euro RSCG, Grey Healthcare Group and Saatchi & Saatchi Consumer Healthcare, promoting such brands as Botox, Crestor, Imitrex, Lunesta and many others.

The Balcom Agency earned second place recognition for the “Salex: Before, After” ad developed to launch SalexTM Cream for Coria Laboratories, Ltd. Judges agreed that the ad’s use of lizards to illustrate the concept was “a simple, effective visual metaphor,” as reported in the MM&M Awards 2005 Book. One judge added, “It’s better than another gorgeous face or hand shot.” The campaign helped the brand exceed sales goals by more than 50 percent in less than one year.

The MM&M Awards also named the Balcom Agency a Finalist in the same category for “The Evolution of Easy,” an ad launching ACCUZYME® Spray, a new brand extension for Healthpoint, Ltd.

The Best Product Launch Advertisement category recognized excellence in ads for the launch of any new prescription drugs, or other medical products and services, in all medical journals and other periodicals. The overall category winner was Abelson-Taylor Inc. and Connetics Corporation for Evoclin, while other finalists included echo Torre Lazur and Sepracor for Lunesta, and Stratagem Healthcare Communications LLC and Pacific Bioscience Laboratories Inc. for Clarisonic.

“The objective of the MM&M Awards is to champion creativity and effectiveness across the gamut of medical and healthcare marketing communications,” said MM&M Editor in Chief James Chase. “This year’s winners demonstrated these standards to our independent panel of judges.” The 2005 MM&M Awards ceremony was held November 9 at the Tavern on the Green in New York City.
