The Little Engine that Could

Some (though not all) of you are aware that there are some changes happening at my house. A few weeks ago, I got the bright idea to paint my bathroom cabinets. I considered this "starting small." The plan was to paint the bathroom cabinets, inside and out, and assuming they looked nice and pretty, also paint the kitchen cabinets.

We'll omit the sort-of complicated and long part of the story here and jump right to the fact that there's a man coming to my house today to paint the cabinets for me. I mean – when somebody quotes you an awesome price – it's just really hard to say, "No, thanks. I'd much rather spend hours laboring over it myself."

Last week, you saw that I emptied everything from my kitchen cabinets. Since then, things have gotten worse. Every drawer is now on the floor of my living room. All of my living and dining room furniture is hidden under sheets and blankets. My refrigerator is in my dining room. My stove is in the middle of the kitchen. I don't think that I could get anything out of the pantry, even if I wanted to (though admittedly – I haven't tried).

I'm a fairly orderly person. Things have a place (though sometimes, they just belong in a certain pile) so having things like my refrigerator move to the dining room is causing ridiculous amounts of anxiety.

This is one of those times that I feel like The Little Engine that Could. My head is down. My eye is on the prize. There are fabulous looking cabinets at the end of this tunnel. All I have to do is power through the mess to get to them. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
