iPhone Regret?
If you're been hanging around here for any amount of time, you'll know I was hesitant to switch from a Blackberry to the iPhone. I made the switched and have been pleased as punch. My wee iPhone provides me with much merriment. Sure, its battery life down-right sucks, but as a whole – it's quite the charmer.
Until yesterday.
This little dude has started dropping calls like it is nobody's business. Yesterday morning, I talked for twenty minutes, then couldn't get it to hold the call for longer than ten seconds. I tried calling back again and again. Last evening, a friend of mine called, and our call dropped. This morning, we had a possibly more frustrating round of dropped calls.
I have been an AT&T customer since the dawn of time. Never before have calls dropped like this. But here's the real confusion. Why do the calls drop when I have full signal? Is it the fault of the phone or the network? If it's the phone – why does it tell me I have full signal? If it's the network – why did it only start since the change of my phone?
I called AT&T, navigated my way to an Apple representative and talked to a very nice lady who told me that yes, this had been a problem in the previous models but is now peachy on the new models. She walked me through a few things (turning it off, doing a hard reset) and told me that those things should help. She reminded me to turn it off every day which I'm an advocate of, but seeing as how I didn't know where the power button was until today – it's safe to say that I haven't done that.
Regardless, my frustrations are still high. What if the turning it off and the hard reset don't fix the phone? I'm gonna have to send this little guy back. I can't handle something that yes, is a great product, if at the end of the day it doesn't do what it's supposed to do: make a call.
I'm extremely leery now and wondering: did I made the right decision after all?

My old iPhone drops calls occasionally, but it is still a cell phone--so I just assumed that was normal! It never bugged me that much.
"Occasionally" would be fine with me. But when you have to call somebody back seven times to finish your conversation because it won't hold a call for longer than five seconds -- that's not cool...
I just think your crazy.
Actually, I go through bouts as well where I cant keep a call. I have yet to attribute it to the iPhone though. I attribute it to those damn commercials that AT&T started running. I NEVER dropped calls with them until they started running those 'No dropped calls network' commercials.
AT&T as a whole really does suck now, but alas, I think any cell phone company would suck. So, I grin and bear it. When that doesn't work, I just look at my iPhone and smile in the joy that it has Sudoku.
LOL! Oh, how I love you and your insight... I'd sub in Scramble for Sudoku, but you know - to each their own. :o)
I have had the same problem recently with dropped calls even with full signal, but I know of several other AT&T users that do not have iPhones that have been having the same problem as well.
This makes me feel a little better! It doesn't make me pleased as punch, but it makes me feel better that it may not, in fact, be the phone!
