iPhone: a review

I'm a new kid on the iPhone block. My iPhone sat in Anchorage, Alaska, for so many days that I was sure it wouldn't make it here by June 19th. But quickly, It went from Alaska to Kentucky to DFW Airport until it finally landed in my warm little hands before 9:00 am on Friday morning.

I don't think that anybody will be surprised that I played with the phone all weekend. I installed addictive puzzle games, seemingly ridiculous apps, productivity apps and a handful of other things. I uploaded pictures and set ringtones. The phone and I? We became well acquainted.

After a few days, I have stopped fearing that it won't live up to my expectations because – let's face it – this little dude rocks. However, there are still a few things that have me saying, "I wish that was different..."

  1. The battery life on this thing is less than stellar.
I have noted that if I can refrain from playing Scramble, it lasts longer, but still...it's not amazing.
  2. You spell check as you go.
I am used to spell checking at the END of composing my message. This means I have to retrain myself to spell check as I go. (Note: this is no fault of the phone, just my own need to train myself to compose emails differently.)
  3. You only get two profiles.
This is quite possibly my biggest beef. You get silent (with or without a vibration) and sound (with or without a vibration). Because my cell phone is my only phone, I had my Blackberry configured to be silent at night unless certain people called. This allowed me to be reached in case of an emergency, but my sleep wasn't interrupted by e-mails in the process.

I can't say that my iPhone is "better than" my Blackberry yet. It does some REALLY cool things, that's for sure! I'm sure over time, I'll get over the spell checking, and maybe I can even find away to solve this emergency call situation.

Anybody out there have any tips?

Dude, you are blogging again?

I'm glad you like it, although I knew you'd have something about it you didn't like. ;)

Hey, I had no idea a crackberry could do that. The if this person calls it rings, even on silent. Tell me how, please?

Yep! The whole office is. Pretty fun!

I'll email you about the crackberry!
